Before the battle, Varic asks Empyrean for help in fending off Irving's party. Empyrean, however, responds by saying Varic has enough power to defeat the party without Empyrean's help. After Empyrean leaves, Varic still remains confident he can defeat Irving's party with Empyrean's aspect. But using their combined strengths and determination, Irving's party is able to take down Varic and free Delia from his tyranny. Even with this victory, they are not out of the woods yet...
