After defeating Akmenos and ascending the tower some more, Vesta has a realization. The student from Cosmere who was obsessed with Aspects, Atlas Shale, was actually just Empyrean under a different name. The party pieces together that Empyrean needed the artifacts for the Rite of Ascension, which they had all brought to one place for his usage. They must stop Empyrean from attempting the Rite of Ascension once more, as the last attempt he made caused the calamity.
When the party reaches Empyrean, he commends their attempts to locate him. He believes that what he is doing is just, and offers the party favor when he becomes a god if they simply hand over the aspects. Unfortunately, when the party refuses, Empyrean uses the necromancy he learned from Akmenos to revive Sterling as a revenant warrior against the party. But with their combined efforts, the party is able to defeat Sterling and the other revenants Empyrean revived. The only obstacle standing in the way of Delia's freedom now is Empyrean.
