Alexa was born and raised in Highridge, Delia. Close to the border with Kharmont, Highridge has long had periods of identity crisis. The colder climate and culture of commitment lend themselves to the Kharmont way of life, but the town's Delian loyalty runs hot. Alexa's father, Kosa Jemrot, had trained under his own father as a blacksmith. The Jemrot smithy grew under Kosa to be one of the primary suppliers to the Delian army. Since the age that Alexa could hold the implements, she trained the same as her father had.
Alexa was given little time as a careless youth, taking quickly to work in the smithy. She had many role models in the village, but looked up to her father above anyone else. She was determined to be just like him, and worked tirelessly at it. For every perfectly crafted sword he produced, Alexa would smelt and re-forge three practice attempts of her own. Her mother, who handled the ledger and logistics for the smithy, tried to encourage her to spend more time with the other kids her age in the village. Alexa rarely took to the encouragement - though she did enjoy competing with the other youths.
While the children of Highridge matured, changing with the seasons and ever growing, Alexa stayed much the same. Her body grew stronger, her mind sharper, but her purpose and drive were virtually unchanged for the entirety of her youth. Though she spent some time crushing her peers in local competitions of strength and speed, her gaze never left the forge. She was determined to make her father proud, and in the process managed to become an exceptional smith at a very young age. As others her age left the town to find their fame or fortune, Alexa was already crafting masterworks that could pass for her father's work, and genuinely enjoyed herself doing so. Occasionally, a friend would ask her about how boring her life must be. Alexa never had an answer, because to her it wasn't boring. Some people's happiness may come from adventure or fame, but she had always been simpler than that. She was happy, and couldn't for the life of her understand why people couldn't see that.
Highridge changed when King Fasil was murdered in 1095, along with many other towns that existed on the fringes of Delia's borders. Patrols became more frequent, oversight stricter. It wasn't long after when his son, King Varic, began to demand audiences with various Delian artisans. The very first smith that was brought to Sojourn for such an audience was none other than Kosa Jemrot, prized weapon smith of Highridge. After a long preamble concerning the duties of a Delian Citizen, Varic demanded heavily increased production at discounted prices. The options were simple, perform at the new rates, or lose all business from the crown entirely. Kosa, who had only ever sold to the Delian army, had no choice but to comply. He began to work longer hours, with equipment he could no longer afford to properly maintain. Alexa did her best to pick up the slack, but space and materials were limited. The quality of their work suffered from the increased pace, and several times 'enforcers' were sent to threaten Kosa.
Alexa, who had long been excitable, burnished a righteous hatred for King Varic. She spent countless hours frustrated with the hopelessness of her family’s situation, and furious at Varic for putting them in it. Her father’s health waned with the insurmountable tide of orders, and her temper grew unrestricted. Nearly a decade later, her father finally retired, his body unable to take another stroke of the hammer. All expected her to take up the mantle, but she refused to take part in anything that would benefit Varic. For the first time in her life, she left home. The Jemrot forge went cold as her family’s heritage was left behind, waiting silently to be reclaimed.
