Due to the publicity Irving's prison break received, the party begins to worry that Varic will target Brookstead next, and capture Esme as a hostage. When the party goes to Brookstead to see for themselves, their worst fears are realized. Varic sent a large army to destroy and capture Brookstead and its' people, caring not about the innocent causalities. A woman by the name of Liberty was defending the town by herself, until Irving and the party helped her clean the battlefield.
Once the party stops the invasion, Maren/Alden's grandfather and Garrick's father are able to be rescued. However, Esme has already been taken by the enemy. The mysterious woman defending the town reveals herself to be Liberty, Irving's aunt and a member of the Order of Eternals. Determined to protect her family and Esme, Liberty joins Irving's party and war effort.
