The scholars of the group make their biggest breakthrough yet, and discover that the Mystic Council and Order of Eternals used to be one organization. This organization, known as the Magisterium Arcana, was formed before the calamity and tasked skilled individuals to the study, use, and protect arcane objects in Terrazael. However, the organization split in two after the Calamity, with one sect being the Order of the Eternals and the other being the Mystic Council.
On the subject of the staff, Maeve reveals that a scholar determined to become a god stole the staff from the original creator, and used it for the Rite of Ascension. Maeve's final insight is that the Rite of Ascension may have to do with the Calamity itself.
With Varic backed into a corner, the party finally decides it is time to take over Sojourn. A contact by the name of Dyolfen Bloodstone leads the party to a convert entrance into the city, where they could easily lift the gate and allow the rest of the army to enter Sojourn. After opening the gates, the party heads on to the capital for their final confrontation with Varic.
